The 535 9th street north building was built in 1920 as “Slap Happy’s” 5-and-dime store. In 2005 the building was being utilized as a doggie daycare called “Pet Planet” when it was purchased by NOVA 535 founder Michael Scott Novilla. 3 years and $3MM later, 535 was transformed into NOVA 535 Unique Event Space, opening to the public on February 9, 2008.
